Paranormal Prom: Hauntings at the Queen Mary
May 16, 2014
With prom just around the corner, students are excited to have the last dance of the school year on the Queen Mary, which has been rumored to be haunted.
The Queen Mary has five dining areas and lounges, two cocktail bars and swimming pools, a grande ballroom, squash court and small hospital. It was first used as an ocean liner and was later transformed to a troopship during WWII.
She was called the Grey Ghost during WWII, and has been the site of 49 deaths. Parts of the ship, including the the propeller box, engine room, boiler room, cargo hold and the first class swimming pool are closed to the public due to alleged ghost sightings, but there are tours available for those who are curious.
During the war, The Queen Mary smashed through another smaller ship boarded with 300 passengers. Several guests have reported hearing pounding on the side of the ship believed to be the ghosts of those unfortunate passengers still clambering for dear life. Peter James, a psychic, has reported communication with over 150 spirits on the ship.
Door 13 of the engine room has reportedly crushed two men to death during the ship’s history. Many have reported seeing women dressed in 1930’s swimming suits appear in the first class swimming pool which has been closed for the general use for over three decades. According to website, Legends of America, the ghost of a little girl named Jackie who drowned in the second class swimming pool is often seen and heard by guests.
For those of you planning to spend the night on the Queen Mary, you might experience hearing running water, hearing a child’s cry from the playroom, the lights turning on in the middle of the night, and phones ringing with no one on the other end of the line.
