Coachella is no doubt made up of a hipster demographic. Hipsters die for this kind of stuff; music festivals, total artsy junk and all. They pay hundreds of dollars to dwell upon a patch of desert in Indio, California, where temperatures rise over 100 degrees and not even one hint of shade resides over this hipster-infested patch of dirt. They spend a couple of dollars shopping at a local thrift shop but they somehow manage to accumulate hundreds of dollars to attend a festival in the scorching heat where they stand flesh to flesh sweating on each other. Not to mention how most hipsters are herbivores, they all end up smelling like burnt sausages from this shindig! Well for those of you who couldn’t make it to Coachella this year and after reading about these drawbacks about it are still determined to one day attend, here is a poor man’s guide to go to Coachella without actually going to Coachella:
1. Borrow your mom’s car, take a couple of friends, maybe even an entire caravan and head out to a nearby scorching patch of land. Once out there, set up camp and initiate the festivities. In other words, blast your stereos with CD’s of Coachella’s lineup while rockin’ out with your friends. To make it feel more like a journey, choose a farther location and think desert.
2. Blast the heater in your room, invite a couple of friends and again, blast Coachella’s lineup and rock out.
3. Or you can try this more reasonable way which consists of attending small individual concerts hosted by the bands in the lineup. Think about it…since these bands perform at Coachella, meanwhile, most of them play locally and work their way up to Indio as the festival date gets closer. These local concerts are cheap; they can range from $10 and up. For example, bands from this year’s lineup such as 2 Chainz, Metric, The XX, Passion Pit, Purity Ring, and many more all had local, affordable concerts happening weeks sometimes months before Coachella started. Why not just go on tour yourself by attending every band’s concert closer to home and cheaper without going to Coachella! Take advantage and rejoice!
