During lunch two Fridays ago, the triumphant Battle of the Bands returned after 5 years. Making a comeback and hopefully, this tradition will remain how it was years prior. An event where students get to showcase their talent, creativity, and passion for music. It’s a celebration of student-run artistry.
Battle of the Bands provides a unique and impactful outlet for students to express themselves and embrace their musical talents. For performers, the chance to step onto the stage during lunchtime is a pivotal moment that builds their confidence, allowing them to showcase their skills in front of peers.
¨We want as many bands as we can get. Anyone passionate about music and really excited to be part of it. We´re pretty open with whoever we can let in,¨ said ASB representative, Jack Roche (11).
This inclusive approach encourages a wide range of participants, bringing together musicians from different backgrounds and genres.
Sharing their passion and creating an amusing lunch environment for the upper quad. This event is a fun and outgoing environment for the audience and performers.
¨It encourages other people to start playing music and to play music with other people,¨ says Landon Hammond (10) from Floating Walruses.
Another great aspect Battle of the Bands had is that they brought the performers closer together.
Rehearsing is an important thing for success as a band.
These values are in sync and build up the confidence to perform in front of a larger audience, especially at school. While creativity is being experimented and appreciated.
ASB provides the student bands with a stage to show their musical ability and greaten their experience in a competitive setting.
¨It’s an opportunity for the bands and starting musicians to have a place to perform and it’s really neat,¨ said Wersching.
For many, it’s more than just a chance to showcase their musical talents, it is an avenue to gain confidence and possibly start musical careers. As well as just having a good time. For those still finding their place in music, it serves as a platform to get noticed.
One of the lasting impacts of Battle of the Bands is that it created pathways for young musicians to advance in their musical journey.
¨It can make that discovery happen where, if someone hears a band that they´re excited about, they can start booking them at different venues and expand that way,¨ said Roche.
Battle of the Bands does not just represent our school and the other schools that partake. It also impacts the expansion of music locally and wholly. This event could have been just the beginning for future and ongoing musicians.
