Concert festivals are some of the best forms of entertainment and enjoyment anyone can experience. Seeing a packed lineup of so many bands you like can be such an exciting opportunity for you to go out and free yourself through live music.
In this day and age you’re likely to see festivals across the country enlisting the likenesses of chart-topping pop stars, energetic DJs, and widely loved rappers and hip hop artists at festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo. These concerts are expensive, overhyped, and not to mention quite a far drive or a flight out of town. But now, there’s an entirely new festival coming right to the heart of Orange County.
The Observatory concert venue hosts many crowd pleasing events annually like Burgerama, recently the inaugural Solquarious Fest, and the infamous Beach Goth festival. The live music venue has brought in sold out crowds year after year and they’re planning to do the same with this new vision of the concert festival. The Santa Ana venue has announced the first annual When We Were Young Festival.
When We Were Young as it has been titled focuses exactly on what Coachella and others don’t nowadays–bringing back the past bestsellers of music together for a weekend of throwback music perfection; an event bringing the greatness of late 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s music back to the Southern California scene.
Taking place April 8th and 9th, this heavy hitting carnival of retrospective live music glory features bands like AFI, Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday, and so many more.
Headlining Saturday is none other than the former Smiths lead vocalist and solo career success Morrissey, the renowned english icon from the mid-80s indie alternative scene. Sunday, topping the lineup is none other than The Descendents, the hardcore punk bombshell cultured from the 80’s Los Angeles punk explosion.
When We Were Young finds an ultra specific niche that covers a large range of age groups and people. Among the lineup, there are bands like Cage the Elephant, Homeshake, and AFI who are currently still finding popularity among young crowds and commercial success in new music they have put out currently despite their start in earlier years when they began playing.
Nevertheless this is a concert festival that should not be missed, it’s guaranteed to be a weekend of some of the best live performances of some of the greatest bands music has seen.
Tickets are on sale now at whenwewereyoung.net, Saturday 1-day passes are $100 and Sunday 1-day passes are $60.
