Maddie Butler Stands Out in SJHHS Dance
January 23, 2017
Maddie Butler, a dancer in the advanced level class at SJHHS has been dancing for the majority of her life and has been continuously improving her skills
Butler started dancing when she was 3 because her mom told her if she gave up her pacifier she could start taking classes. She continued for two years then took a break for a couple years to pursue other sports. After realizing dance was what she was most passionate about, she began taking more classes at age 7 and has been dancing since.
Butler has been involved in the SJHHS dance program since freshman year, immediately being placed in the advanced class.. One of Butler’s favorite parts about the program is all the opportunities it gives her to learn and grow, and the teacher, .”
It is difficult to juggle all of her academics, dance at school, and dance outside of school, but Butler still manages to take weekly classes at Yorba Linda Academy of Ballet and is a part of the Jameson and Company.
This year is also the first year the dance program at SJHHS will be competing with other schools, which Maddie will be a part of, and hopes the team succeeds.
Although many dancers plan to pursue other options than dance after high school, Butler plans to continue dancing throughout college and beyond. Since her favorite part of dancing is learning choreography, she hopes to pursue a career in that later in life.
SJHHS dance performs many times per year on stage and at school and anyone watching all of the dancers and Maddie can attest to how talented and passionate they all are about dance.
