On Friday January 15th, SJHHS Theater department will be attending the California Educational Theater Association. The San Juan Hills theater department has been attending the contest as long as nine years.
Anyone High School can entire CETA in the state of California and they must submit their fall Drama production show. SJHHS is submitting Exit the Body for the fall show.
Three judges will adjudicate (judge) Exit the Body over three nights and they grade them on their technical, acting, and directing aspects.
In the Southern California zone there are four districts which are San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, and Inland Empire.
Each school in the four districts are rated on a scale of 1-100 and in the Orange County district there are 16 schools. This year SJHHS received a 92 for their score.
“That makes us about midway through the pack (in the competition) but Orange County is a very competitive district,” said the SJHHS drama teacher Mrs. Beilstein.
The first place winner from each district at the competition gets to take their show to the CETA festival.
The festival is three days and even though SJHHS is not performing in the festival the entire fall cast from Exit the Body has the opportunity to attend and win awards.
On the Saturday of the festival there will be 60 different workshops for the students to take, each student gets to take three. Seniors also get to compete in a senior scholarship competition.
Gabby Heckler, Ian Garcia, Jaegar Cohen, and Hunter Klein are the four seniors from SJHHS that are going to be competing in the senior competitions.
Instead of going to one of their workshops they will be going to the scholarship competition.
“I’m expecting this to be very fun, I have done competition like this before and I think whatever happens it is going to be a beneficial experience,” said SJHHS student Gabby Heckler(12).
