Mockingjay Just OK
The PG-13 drama based, action packed movie, The Hunger Games is taking place in the Capital controlled Panem. Every year, there is a Hunger Games. The “Game makers” select two kids from each of the twelve “known” districts against their will, making them fight to the death as parents, friends, and neighbors are forced to watch the spectacle, and the last to survive is titled the victor.
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, played by Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, change the game when they won the 74th Annual Hunger Games together. Winning in a pair was something that was never done.
Now in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- part 2, Katniss, who has now become the Mockingjay, a symbol of the rebellion, has a mission to kill President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland. As the end game continues to unravel, Katniss loses her home, her family, and her life in most ways. Peeta is rescued from the capital but brought back as a mutt of the capitals that has the intentions of killing Katniss. Peeta doesn’t see Katniss as the woman he loved and risked his life for, but a demon and a liar who needs to be killed. Seeing Peeta scream for her vengeance pushed Katniss to a brink that almost broke her.
Pushing past this turmoil, Katniss goes to war. a war that Finnick Odair, played by Sam Claflin, called the 76th Annual Hunger Games. Many were killed in Katniss’s unit but she went on, needing to get to President Snow.
The fourth installment of The Hunger Games was directed by Francis Lawrence and came out in theaters on November 20th, 2015.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part-2 has many with mixed feelings. Cambria Dicenzo (12) said, “I really liked Peeta’s development in the film. It was really different from how I imagined it in the novels. The entire plot was brilliant to me, because instead of making it the cheesy lovers’ story it was in the first movie, this time it was raw and real and on impulse rather than expected.” Whereas Connor Crotty (10) said, “The movie was pretty similar to the book, but to me, the movie was too slow.”
This movie is hard to watch as many characters die that we have come close to and learned to love. It was heart wrenching, but I thought the movie was just good, not great. The Mockingjay part-1 didn’t create much hype for the second movie in my opinion. It was slow and didn’t connect much to the rest of the trilogy. Therefore, I figured all the action and interesting aspects of the story were being released in part- 2. To say the least, I was mildly disappointed. The plot was okay, but there were parts that I thought were “flawed” in the making and “boring.” Problems with the film that I blame the director Francis Lawrence for. Looking at the big picture the movie is still a fun watch, especially for book lovers who see their favorite characters.
