Hearthstone: More than Just Card Game
June 5, 2015
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play online strategy card game on iOS, Android, PC, and Mac.
The game was released on March 11, 2014, but only recently made the transition to iOS and Android phones on April 15, 2015, and the app has already seen overwhelmingly rise in popularity on both these platforms.
The games tag line is “Deceptively Simple. Insanely Fun.” I find this holds true for many people as the game starts out with a rather simple tutorial that lets the beginner get to know the ropes of the game before even making an account. This allows for many to be able just pick it up and play as well as people who play this game professionally for some E-Sport leagues.
As Hearthstone is a card game obviously you are able make and customize your own deck stemming from nine different characters. The play starts out as a Mage and is able to unlock the other classes after the tutorial is completed.
The other characters include: Paladin, Warrior Hunter, Druid, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, and Warlock. The diversity in classes allows for many different strategies and allows players with similar decks to have many different play styles.
My Rating: 8.5/10
As fun as this game is, it still has its problems. For example, the game is limited to the devices connection, which can be a major problem for people playing on cellular connection, even though nothing can be done about that it should also be noted that there is no offline mode.
Additionally, the ranked game system is flawed as it allows for better players to play at lower ranks than they actually are which lets them win faster. Increasing their kill count and in them receiving more money, otherwise known as farming. There is not much developers can do about these problems as the player is bound to have problems with online multiplayer games. However, this should not take away from how insanely fun and addicting this game is.
