Disney’s Choreographers Gives Valuable Advice

Disneyland! Where dancers’ dreams almost come true. On October 8, Mrs. Calder took Dance Production on a field trip to Disneyland for a mock audition. This trip was a perfect opportunity for some of the Stallion dancers to receive beneficial feedback from Disney choreographers themselves.

“We found out at the very end of last year that we were going to be able to dance for Disney, and everyone was super excited,” said dance captain Jenna Brooks (12).

As a previous dancer for Disney, many kids look up to Mrs. Calder because they would love to perform for Disney as well. However, only a certain amount of students went to  the audition.

“We knew there were only a certain amount of spots, so lots of us were on high alert to find out when we could secure ours,” said Brooks.

38 students went to the mock audition outside behind Toontown, where the dancers and show performers practice.

“They have like these little dance rooms that you can go in and that’s where they practice and we just kinda went there” said Jordyn Margolis (10).

This mock audition benefited the Stallion dancers when the choreographer evaluated their skills and gave them simple tips and tricks that could help them improve their dancing styles.

“So when they have auditions… they’ll say ‘Oh it’s for Block Party or it’s for Sound Sensational’ or it’s for whatever parade they’re running at that time. So when they go to audition they’ll know like ‘Ok  I should wear this, this is how I should do my hair, or when I go across the floor I need to make sure I wink,’” said Calder.

After auditioning, the dancers now have a clear idea of what being a Disney performer is all about. The experience gave the dancers professional feedback that they otherwise would never have received.

The first performance of the year will be showing on Nov. 21-22.
