Three SJHHS Drama Students Win Cappie Awards
May 23, 2014
Three of our drama students were recognized for their wins at the 11th Annual OC Cappies Awards Gala in Anaheim.
The three winners for this year’s Cappie awards are Madeline Blomdahl for Best Comedic Actress in The Trouble with Summer People, Alexis MacAdam for Best Featured Actress in The Trouble with Summer People, and Joseph Fernandez for Best Featured Actor in The Trouble with Summer People.
According to Cambria Beilstein, drama teacher, Cappies is a well-known organization that helps students act as critics for high school theatre in our area. Cappie teams go to other schools and write reviews on their shows. Then at the end of the year, critics nominate and vote multiple categories.
“This year, SJHHS Theatre has done really well,” says Beilstein.
Our SJHHS drama department entered two shows into Cappies this year, which were: The Trouble with Summer People and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
The nominees this year were Emma Giles for Sound Design, Alexis MacAdam and Joseph Fernandez for Best Ensemble in a Play – The Trouble with Summer People, Alexis MacAdam and Joseph Fernandez for Featured Actor/Actress in a Play – The Trouble with Summer People, Joseph Fernandez for Featured Actor in a Musical – How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Madeline Blomdahl for Comic Actress in a Play – The Trouble with Summer People, Madeline Blomdahl and Grant Dossey for Comic Actor/Actress in a Musical – How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Chase Robinson for Top Junior Critic, and Sara Stickler, Reese Ravner, Danielle Schettino, and Chase Robinson for Cappie Commendees. The Trouble with Summer People, as well, was nominated for Best Play this year.
“I was so excited and honored when I found out that I was nominated for the categories I was picked for. It is so cool to be apart of something that honors and celebrates theatre,” says Madeline Blomdahl (11).
