When you hear the word “team,” you probably think of a basketball or football team. Maybe even an academic decathlon team. Very few of you, however, associate the word team with comedy. But that’s about to change- on October 25th, SJHHS’s Comedy Sportz team will take the stage at Laguna Hills High School. 

This year, the team is armed with 21 witty individuals from all four grades. “It’s the biggest we’ve ever had,” says manager Sydney Barys. 

The two captains this year are Milo Simpson and Ryan Kerkow. With all the new students coming in they plan to bring to the stage the “strongest team yet,” says Barys.

Mrs. Smith, a ninth grade English teacher is the team’s adviser. She was one of the advisers for the team at Capo Valley High School. But then she was transferred to SJHHS and realized we didn’t have a team. She instantly knew, “That was one of the things I could offer to San Juan Hills,” said Smith.

Comedy Sportz is a very positive environment where kids learn skills useful for both school and the rest of their lives.

“We do team building, and we are very positive with each other. We learn how to communicate better, how to think quickly on our feet [and] how to be creative,” says Smith.

In all, Comedy Sportz is a fun and creative way to let your “inner jokester” shine. So do not miss out on the “team” experience because you’re not a star athlete or a brainiac. If you’re the class clown, the family jokester, or just a wisecrack: make sure to check out the team. Comedy Sportz is a great way to meet new people, step out of your comfort zone, and most importantly: make people laugh!
