Purity Ring, an indie electronic band from Canada, isn’t what everyone gravitates towards when picking a song from their iPod. This experimental group formed by Megan James and Corin Roddick in 2011 started with a taste for unusual beats and a few hits on Google.
Now, the seemingly small time band has made the lineup for this year’s Coachella Music Festival.
Since their start, James and Roddick seemed to only release singles but in 2012, they released Shrines, the lone album that accompanies their name.
The album immediately gained popularity in the UK and gradually made it to number 32 on Billboard 200 here in the US.
The ethereal beats and seemingly-dark lyrics make Purity Ring’s sound addictive and shadowy but each song has a certain quirkiness to it.
James serenades lyrics in “Lofticries” with a youthful voice that Roddick layers with whimsical beats that create an array of emotions particular to the listener.
Purity Ring gifts the listener with tracks that are dreamy and dark, bold yet eccentric. James and Roddick’s artwork continue to draw listeners into a world of contradiction.
