Nicole Hernandez (12) can be described as musically diverse. She plays the guitar, piano, ukulele, and sings in the choir. Even more exceptionally, Hernandez has helped produce an extended play record. She produced two of the six songs on her the EP, using her keyboard to add unique and interesting sounds to her music.

After collaborating with two of her friends, Senior, Nicole Hernandez recorded and produced her own extended play record (EP).

“I made it in my room on my mac,” said Hernandez, “I chose to make it because I love music and I just felt like it.”

Hernandez had always had a passion for music and has been a member of the SJHHS Choir for two years. “Last year I was in advanced women’s [choir], and this year, I am in chamber [choir],” said Hernandez.

The music industry had been an interest for her, so she decided to write some songs with her friends and record some music.

Over a six month process, Hernandez finished the record. It was a bit harder than she planned out to be because she was recording the project while she was still in school. The EP consists of six songs, two of which she produced.

The EP used some unconventional sounds to mix with the music to add character to the songs. “In one of the songs for the background it was ocean waves, and in another one it was a bicycle,” said Hernandez.

Most of the music was written on her keyboard which she could manipulate to become multiple instruments– for instance, she could be playing the sounds of drums, while pressing the key on her piano.

Hernandez is very involved musically, “I play piano, guitar, and ukulele. I sing and write music as well.” She plans on making another EP or record in the future and will continue writing and performing music.

Hernandez plans on following her dreams and studying music after high school to reach her goal of becoming a member of the music industry.
