SJHHS’ new starting varsity quarterback, Doug Jackson, is leading the football team as a junior this year.

Jackson transferred to SJHHS in his sophomore year from San Clemente High School. He said that transferring was the only chance he had to be able to start after the previous starting quarterback, Patrick O’Brien, graduated.

“I feel pretty comfortable. The seniors are counting on me to have a good season this year,” said Jackson. “When I came here I was treated very kindly. Jacob Huff and Jason Glass invited me to things, and we also threw the ball around during the weekend.”

Teammate Jacob Huff, a grade older than Jackson, said that he acted as a mentor for Jackson when he transferred here. He explained that Jackson easily fit in with the team.

“I feel that Doug has really gelled with everyone and we have all started to really get along with him,” Huff said. “Doug has always had the talent. The only thing he had to work on when he got here is learning the plays.”

Jackson looks to perform at his best this season and has a strong team to back him up. Led by seniors Huff and Cayden McCluskey, this year’s receivers have experience and talent on their side.

Jackson said that he feels at home with his friends and that SJHHS has provided an environment easy to fit in to. Practicing this summer has strengthened Jackson’s bond with his teammates and built an energy that is a force to be reckoned with.
