On Friday night, the Stallions opened up their season with a 27-0 lead over San Clemente at halftime and never looked back.

The Stallions offense, which was led by veteran quarterback Patrick O’Brien,
was magnificent. O’Brien was able to find Jacob Huff routinely in the end zone. In fact, O’Brien and Huff connected twice for key touchdowns to start the rout.

“We played a lot more physical in the game than we have in practice” said Jacob Huff.

The passing attack was balanced with an emphasis on the running game. Cole Suchesk, Devin Wegis, and Brock Cazel amassed for 196 yards on the ground. As a result, this kept the Tritons defense befuddled as to what will hit them next. The Stallions poise and balance on offense made them nearly impossible to defend.

The Stallions defense and special teams stifled the Tritons. Cameron Buchanan was flying all over the field with thirteen tackles and a game clinching interception. Along with Buchanan, the entire Stallions defense was able to get pressure on QB Jack Sears of San Clemente. This pressure led to Sears fumbling near the end of the first half which led to a Stallions touchdown.

Also, the Stallions special teams executed on their kickoff coverages to avoid giving up important field position. Kicker Jack Montgomery and Punter Miles Hooper were able to pin down the Tritons in their own territory. During the offense’s struggles in the second half, the defense and special teams helped earn the first win of the season for the Stallions.

“This year we have a lot of returning starters so we know how to play in bigger games” said Patrick O’Brien.

For the Stallions, this win is a legacy win. A win that has validated this football team’s relevance in the eyes of football aficionados. If the Stallions are able to play this well on a consistent basis, then they may just be on their way to a second league title.
