When Nick Viall was announced as season 21’s Bachelor there were two kinds of people: those who were excited for him to finally find his true love and those who were tired of seeing him on the show. After starring on The Bachelorette twice and Bachelor in Paradise once, it wasn’t looking to good for his chances of finding love.

In the first episode we met this season’s contestants, and it was interesting to say the least. There was Alexis, who appeared in a “dolphin” costume that was very obviously a shark, Danielle M., who made Nick lick maple syrup off her finger, and lots of others, several of whom were wearing red dresses.

Rachel Lindsay was the girl who impressed Nick from the very beginning, earning her the First Impression Rose. There were several other ladies fighting for his attention, not just in the first episode, but throughout the season.

Corinne was portrayed as a promiscuous, immature, nap-loving gal. It was obvious that she was going be pinned as the villain of the season. Though she didn’t get the First Impression Rose, she definitely marked her spot in Nick’s heart from the beginning.

Week after week, girls were eliminated and Nick’s relationships with the remaining contestants grew stronger, and the time for Hometown Dates quickly approached.

During Hometown Dates, each girl introduces Nick to her family and shows him around her town, giving him a glimpse of what their life could be like together. Corinne, Rachel, Raven, and Vanessa made it to this season’s Hometowns and were each in charge of planning their special day with Nick.

All of these Hometown Dates went pretty well, however most of them had at least one thing that went wrong. Rachel’s Hometown Date went smoothly for the most part, besides the fact that her family was only concerned with the fact that Nick had never dated a black girl.

Vanessa’s Hometown Date started out perfect, but ended up a hot mess. Hometown Dates are the time where the Bachelor usually asks the parents if he has their permission to marry their daughter. Of course if Vanessa made it that far, it was clear that Nick is seriously considering marrying her. However, when she found out that her parents weren’t the only ones that were asked, she felt insignificant.

Corinne’s Hometown Date was a casual shopping day at the mall. But Corinne’s definition of a casual shopping day apparently means to spend over $3,000 for her boyfriend. Though he seemed to enjoy it, it was apparent he wasn’t into the major spendings.

Raven’s Hometown Date went as perfect as it could have. She nailed showing him an exciting day in her town and introduced Nick to things that interested both of them. They spent the day on a four wheeler riding in the mud and exploring the unique places in her town.

At this point in the season only Rachel, Raven, Vanessa remain. However, we know it comes down to Raven and Vanessa because it was announced that Rachel is going to be the next Bachelorette. Right now, the two seem pretty equal when it comes to Nick’s affection, but anything could happen in the future.
