We Have the Talent, but Where’s the Show?

ASB Activities Director Brooke Valderrama said that ASB has thrown around the idea of having a talent show, but has never decided to hold one.

“We talked about doing it several times and then, I don’t know, it just seems like we haven’t generated a ton of interest…I think it would be really cool,” said Valderrama.

One of the reasons a talent show has never occurred is because the other artistic departments such as drama, dance, and choir have extensive reserved theater time.

However, a talent show would take up far less theater time than other performances.

While the halls of San Juan Hills pulse with students who have unique talents and highly-trained skills, those abilities go largely unnoticed in the absence of a school-wide talent show.

During a student’s high school years, they begin to express themselves by engaging themselves deeper in their personal interests and natural-born talents.

“I would love to help. It would be fun, and I’m sure some students have some incredible talent,” said Andy Kinnon, San Juan’s Theater Manager. “If you guys work with Mrs. [Beilstein], the drama teacher, because I am sure she would like the idea, it would just be a matter of working.”

Like any large high school event, there is a good amount of planning that will have to go into a talent show. This planning consists of advertising, rehearsals, making sure the participants are committed to their performances, and much more.

In a poll conducted on The Express’ website that asked if SJHHS should have a talent show, 50% voted ‘Yes, I would participate’ and 43% voted ‘Yes, I would attend’.

If you are interested in participating in or attending SJHHS’s very first talent show, keep an eye out for possible news on a talent show in the 2015-2016 school year.
